It is frustrating to run out of medication and not have access to a new prescription. There are many reasons why this could happen, and we certainly would like to assist.
Before requesting any new scripts, please check if you have any repeats left - this information should be listed on the label of your medication, on a copy of the script which you may have, or on your pharmacy dispensing applications (this is a handy tool to handle any medication-related inquiries) or with your pharmacist.
It is a good clinical practice to ensure the scripts are current during each consultation, allowing us to monitor their use and plan for future treatment.
At Voix, three distinct classes of medication require different handling:
- general medication (let's call it "Class 1"), which does not require specific approvals by PBS/Medicare, valid for 12 months.
- so-called authority scripts ("Class 2") that involve a unique authority number from PBS to facilitate medication subsidies (less of a problem with private scripts), valid for 12 months.
- authority scripts for highly regulated medications (S8 drugs - "Class 3"), such as dexamphetamine and Ritalin-based medication, can be dispensed only during specific intervals; these scripts are valid for six months.
Class 1 and 2 medication could be issued without any specific dispensing intervals. In some exceptional circumstances, they can be issued by any medical practitioner as long as our team at Voix is informed that this medication was issued (so we can keep track of your prescriptions).
If you require a new script for general medication and authority scripts (Class 1 and 2):
- Complete the below script request
- Be prepared: make sure you have all of the necessary information on hand, including the medication name, dosage, and any other relevant details.
- Discuss your needs: Discuss your medical conditions with your healthcare provider during your appointment.
- Receive your prescription: In our practice, we prefer to issue electronic scripts, which provide an additional option for extra security and dispensing convenience. We are also set up for printed scripts.
REQUEST A SCRIPT
- Class 3 is highly regulated, mainly ADHD medication, and requires DIFFERENT handling.
- This medication can be issued only during consultations, allowing you and your treating team to reflect on its usefulness and safety.
- This class of medication needs to be strictly monitored and regularly optimised.
- Please arrange a brief appointment - ideally, a face-to-face meeting, but it could be a telehealth or telephone review.
- The doctor would need to check your vital observations such as blood pressure and heart rate and, in some situations, check your weight which could be done only during the face-to-face meeting; occasionally, such observations could be completed at the local pharmacy or a medical centre.
- We also need to comply with the local, Western Australian regulations regarding annual urine drug screens for ALL patients over 13 years of age.
- The prescribing doctor would need to be aware of any other medications you currently use and your general medical conditions.
- Please note that we cannot fax prescriptions for "Class 3" medication for security reasons.
- Your pharmacy will not dispense this medication without an original or electronic script.
