Lost scripts - how to act?

So you lost your script. What now? Please let us know if you lost a script.

There are some situations when there could be clinical concerns about access to psychotropic (psychiatric) medication, and "lost script" may relate to someone's distress and mental state at that time.

We must check if the lost script was lost or misused, which could harm the patient's well-being or safety.

If there are no clinical concerns, we can quickly replace this script and SMS you the e-script to replace the lost one. It is more "difficult" to lose e-scripts as they are sent as SMS messages which are frequently backed up on several devices, and the messages could be easily retrieved.

There will be a script fee as it requires a process of internal checking on our part, access to your records, verification of the script and sending the script to you via SMS or print.

Unfortunately, it is more complicated with highly regulated Schedule S8 medications, such as ADHD drugs. These scrips are registered, and the Health Department monitors dispensing schedules.

  • if the new script was lost (e-script, printed or maybe handwritten) and was NOT presented to the Pharmacy (not dispensed), we need to cancel the previous script and reissue a new one, which requires a new PBS Authorisation number and a new script altogether. There is a script fee for such a service.
  • if the script was presented to the Pharmacy, it is not a problem as the Pharmacy will have the original script's record and must maintain the dispensing record. Please contact the Pharmacy where you registered the script - they will have a record of this medication.
