We will facilitate the earlier release of scripts if it is required. Please give us the reasons for such early release so we can record them in your electronic medical notes.
Early release requests usually relate to highly regulated scripts for so-called S 8 medications, such as psychostimulants (ADHD drugs).
These scripts have fixed dispensing schedules, so they cannot be released earlier than the stated dispensing interval (written on the script). This is a safety measure as too frequent dispensing for some patients may mean overuse of this medication, which could be detrimental to their health.
The Health Department monitors dispensing intervals to ensure regulatory compliance (not by the local Pharmacy).
The conditions of "early release" are subject to Health Department auditing.
We can issue an "Early Release Request", which will state:
"I authorise the early release of psychostimulant medication as long as the dose of this medication is not changed and the patient can track the schedule of this medication's use (monitored by the Health Department)."
