Clonidine - may be helpful too

Clonidine is a medication used to treat high blood pressure and other conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD) and tic disorders (e.g. shrugging, blinking, head turning, muscle twitches, throat clearing), sleep difficulties and sometimes anxiety disorders.

It works by calming the nervous system, helping to reduce feelings of restlessness and agitation.

While this medication can help treat these conditions, it can also cause specific side effects.

Common side effects may include drowsiness, dry mouth or eyes, dizziness, light-headedness, low blood pressure, headaches, and constipation. To counteract some of these side effects, you may try chewing sugarless gum, sucking on hard, sugar-free candy, or using artificial tears or eye drops.

If you experience any concerning or long-lasting symptoms, talk to your doctor about ways to manage them.

In addition to the common side effects, it is important for patients taking clonidine to be aware of potentially serious but uncommon side effects, which may include skin rash with swelling and itching or difficulty breathing; worsened depression or unusual mood changes; fast or slow heart rate; increased agitation; restlessness or irritability; sudden onset of high blood pressure, fast heartbeat, agitation and nausea or vomiting.

If you experience severe side effects, seek medical help immediately.

It is also essential to understand that other medications may interact with clonidine, so discuss all medications you are taking (both prescription and over-the-counter) with your doctor before starting treatment.

Be sure to follow all instructions, including keeping regular appointments and monitoring for side effects. Also, ensure your family knows your condition to support you if needed.

Finally, store clonidine in the original container at room temperature, away from moisture and heat and out of reach and sight of children.
